Leandro De Niro, a teenage grandson of Robert De Niro, was found dead in NYC on Sunday.
NYPD responded to 55 Wall Street just after 2:30 p.m. and found the teen unresponsive.
The building – Cipriani Wall Street – features apartments, hotel rooms and an exclusive social club.
Leandro De Niro, grandson of Robert De Niro, was found dead Sunday afternoon in an iconic lower Manhattan building, authorities said.
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Insider that officers responded to an 911 call at 55 Wall Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and found an 18-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive.
The teen, later identified as De Niro, is actually 19.
According to the NYPD, De Niro was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will determine his cause of death.
Leandro De Niro is De Niro’s son eldest daughter, Drena, and the artist Carlos Rodriguez.
Robert De Niro’s eldest son – Raphael De Niro – is a real estate agent who has sold apartments on Cipriani Wall Street, The Real Deal reported in 2009.
“I have loved you without words or description from the moment I felt you in my stomach,” Drena De Niro wrote in an Instagram caption. “You have been my joy, my heart and everything that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you now. I wish I was with you.”
The NYPD did not say where at 55 Wall Street the teen was found. Known as Cipriani Wall Street, the building is home to luxury condominiums, hotel rooms, event space, and the $4,000-a-year exclusive, old-money-inspired social club “Casa Cipriani.” It used to be the National City Bank Building and once housed the New York Stock Exchange, according to the Cipriani website.
Insider left a message with the building’s management office and the office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday.
In a statement to USA Today, Robert De Niro asked his get family privacy as they “mourn our loss of Leo.”
