Russia has said on Sunday that China has sent a message of support to Russia’s leadership in efforts to stabilize the domestic situation.
These comments came after the cessation of the rebellion of the Russian mercenary group Wagner inside Russia.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrei Rudenko, held meetings on Sunday in Beijing on “international issues”, after the most serious challenge faced by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine, in February 2022 .
“The Chinese side has expressed support for the efforts of the leadership of the Russian Federation to stabilize the situation in the country, related to the events of June 24, and confirms its interests in strengthening the cohesion and prosperity of Russia,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
China’s Foreign Ministry has simply said that Rudenko spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang about Sino-Russian relations as well as “regional and international issues”.
It is unclear when Rudenko arrived in Beijing, Moscow’s key ally, and whether his visit was in response to the Wagner group’s rebellion.
The rebellion was put down on Saturday after a deal brokered by Belarus saw Wagner’s boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, go to Belarus and return fighters to bases.
