Russian airstrikes targeted several cities in Ukraine early Friday, killing at least 21 people, Ukrainian officials said.

The city of Uman in Cherkasy Oblast in Central Ukraine was the hardest hit. One of the attacks hit an apartment building, killing at least 19 people, including three children, according to Ihor Taburets, governor of Cherkasy oblast. The attack occurred around 4:30 a.m. local time, when most people would have been asleep. Several other buildings were also damaged or destroyed. Rescue teams search for survivors under the rubble.

Dnipro, Ukraine’s fourth-largest city and an important industrial center in southeastern Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, was hit by “high-precision” attacks in the early hours of the morning, killing a woman and a 3-year-old child, said the mayor of Dnipro. Boris Filatov.

Russian attacks also targeted Kiev, Ukraine’s capital and largest city, but there were no reports of casualties or damage. It was the first attack on the capital in 51 days, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration. Preliminary data show that 11 cruise missiles and two drones were destroyed in Kiev’s airspace, the military city administration said.
