A member of the City Council of Sammamish, Washington, resigned on June 5 after making critical remarks about Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community at a June 1 planning meeting.
At the Planning Commission meeting, member Wassim Fayed alleged that members of the LGBTQ+ community were “promoting disease and plague in our children’s minds in schools.”
“God created us as a man and a woman, and going against God’s creation and spreading disease in the community is something we need to speak out against,” he said.
On Monday afternoon, the city of Sammamish convicted Fayed’s comments.
“Shortly after this statement was sent, Fayed tendered his resignation to the mayor, which the mayor accepted. The resignation is effective immediately,” the city said in a statement. Credit: City of Sammamish via Storyful
