A security guard has been killed in a shooting at a hospital in Portland, Oregon, which sparked an hours-long manhunt for the suspect, police said.
The suspect is also dead after a shooting involving officers, police said.

Officers initially responded around 11 a.m. PT Saturday at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in northwest Portland after a report of a person possibly armed with a gun, police said.
Upon arrival, officers were “told that shots had been fired at the hospital,” said Sgt. Kevin Allen, a spokesman for the Portland Police Department, told reporters at a briefing. No patients were injured, although the hospital security guard was injured in the shooting, police said. He was taken to a Level 1 trauma center, where he later died, police said.
The suspect had left hospital after the shooting, leading to a manhunt. The hospital also sheltered in place amid the active search.
Officers determined that the suspect was in a vehicle, which police stopped in the town of Gresham, about 15 miles east of Portland.
“Shots were fired by police during the incident. The suspect has died,” the Portland Police Department said in a statement.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
“This is a sad day for the Legacy Health workforce, and our hearts go out to the families, friends and colleagues of the employees affected by today’s tragedy,” Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said in a statement. “By all accounts, hospital staff and law enforcement have done a great job responding to this incident, and I am grateful for everyone’s coordinated efforts.”
The victim and suspect have not been publicly identified.
The hospital shelter was lifted at approximately 4:15 p.m. PT.
“This is an extremely scary situation. I want to acknowledge the stress and anxiety of this situation for our patients, for their family members and especially for our healthcare team,” said Legacy COO Jonathan Avery at the briefing, which was conducted during the active search for the suspect.
Avery stressed that the hospital is safe, but urged staff and visitors not to arrive until the crime scene was cleared. The emergency department was rerouted and no patients came in until the hospital got the clearance, Avery said.
