Communities along the Alabama-Georgia border may see up to 8 inches of rain through Saturday, while 3 to 5 inches are forecast in most of those states and parts of Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina and northern Florida.

The Great Lakes and the Northeast will receive some much-needed rain in the coming days to combat the drought and help dissipate smoke from Canada’s wildfires.
