PETALING JAYA – Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should apologize for a joke he recently made with a student during one of his public dialogues with university students, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) says.
Deputy President Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said that unfortunately most older men think this was just a joke.
“Women see this every day, and we always have to explain when we’re not smiling or laughing at the ‘joke’. If we see DSAI (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) do it on a larger scale, this belief will be perpetuated,” she tweeted on Sunday.
Ms Amira said Mr Anwar should apologize publicly as a good example for other men.
“Make it clear to them that this behavior is not okay. Especially coming from someone in a position of power.
“If you’re impressed with the girl, compliment her without making comments that objectify her,” she added.
At an event at a university in Negeri Sembilan, the student had asked the prime minister about his government’s plans to deal with the declining value of the ringgit.
