A Coast Guard crewman rescued a stranded boater in South Carolina on Monday after his ship ran aground.

The helicopter crew hoisted the man out of the 7.5-meter-high boot in Bulls Bay, 50 kilometers northeast of Charleston.

A commercial salvage company called Coast Guard Sector Charleston alerted the Coast Guard around 5 p.m. and said they spotted a boat with one person on board who needed help.

“The tidal fluctuations in our area can be extreme and prevent even shallow-water lifeboats from reaching you in some areas,” said Lt. Tucker Williams, an Air Station Savannah co-pilot on the case. “Checking the tides before sailing and making safe speed in unfamiliar waters can help avoid getting stuck in an emergency situation.”
