More than 200 entrepreneurs recently attended the second Stanbic Business Incubator Limited (SBIL) Masterclass of the year with marketing guru Daniel Choudry who spoke about the ‘Sales effectiveness drivers for your business’. Choudry is the chief consultant and founder of the Daniel Choudry Sales Institute in Kampala.

SBIL, a subsidiary of Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, consistently looks for ways to strengthen and help grow Ugandan small and medium-sized enterprises.

The online Masterclass sessions aim to strengthen entrepreneurs’ ability to achieve their relevant goals by creating and taking advantage of opportunities, especially through networking and exchanging ideas.

Choudry gave participants insight into how to maximize sales by understanding different buyers, building a dream sales team and developing an effective sales strategy.

He said, “People buy people,” and advised entrepreneurs on the importance of salespeople working on their personality and appearance, because people will only buy what they’re selling if they like the person selling it.

Choudry said, ‘If someone is comfortable with you; they can tell you what their needs are and then you can provide solutions that meet that need. If you present a solution to people’s needs, they sign up to buy.”

He encouraged business owners to invest in training their sales teams, creating an environment where they can thrive and understand their customers, competition and business environment.

Choudry said: “The sales team defines who a company’s customers and prospects are, what its value proposition is and how sales are made. Some of us have quality products, but we have the wrong people selling them. That will only confuse this whole conundrum about quality products. It is important to have quality products and services, but you also need to have quality presentations about them.”

He said that trust and credibility are 80% of the reasons people buy your presentations, while the solution is 20%. “Spend most of your time building people’s trust in your brand. That could be a really good place to start and what kind of questions you ask so that people feel comfortable telling you what they need,” he said.

He said that the best sales are a result of making better choices, which is a result of better awareness. Choudry also stressed the importance of reading books.
