A person who allegedly began an enormous blaze that has burned hundreds of acres in Southern California was arrested Tuesday, authorities stated.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Division and investigators with Cal Hearth recognized Justin Wayne Halstenberg, 34, as the one that allegedly began the Line Hearth.

“Highland Station detectives, in collaboration with Cal Hearth investigators, recognized Justin Wayne Halstenberg because the suspect who began a fireplace within the space of Baseline Street and Alpin Road within the metropolis of Highland, also referred to as the Line Hearth, on September 5, 2024,” the sheriff’s workplace stated.
Halstenberg is charged with arson of an inhabited construction, arson of forest land and possession of flammable materials, based on jail data. He’s being held on $80,000 bond.

Authorities did not disclose how they consider Halstenberg began the fireplace, which has burned no less than 34,000 acres of forest east of Los Angeles. He’s scheduled to look in courtroom Thursday.
The fireplace started on Sept. 5 and was solely 14% contained as of Wednesday, based on Cal Hearth, because the area recovers from a number of days of triple-digit warmth. Evacuation orders got to a number of communities, together with close to Massive Bear, a preferred ski city.
On Sunday, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency and deployed the Nationwide Guard to help with evacuations and the state’s response to the fireplace.

Elsewhere in California, the Bridge Hearth, additionally close to Los Angeles, began on Sept. 8 and has burned greater than 46,000 acres. The reason for that blaze continues to be underneath investigation.
