First on his official Instagram account, Teófimo hinted on Sunday that he was retiring and today he confirmed the news in an interview he gave for ESPN.
“What a relief! Retired at the top. Thank you boxing for the amazing life you have given me and all my loved ones!” It was the heartfelt message from López, where he accompanied the publication with a photograph with his father wearing a world champion belt.
After these words, the Honduran indicated that he confirmed his retirement from boxing.
“I announce my retirement from the sport of boxing. I have given him blood, sweat and tears from a very young age. I am 25 years old and I am the first man to be a two-time undisputed world champion. I am very grateful”revealed López in an interview with Max Kellermann in the program “This Just In” on ESPN.
The journalist told him that no one would believe his decision and the Honduran replied: “Right now, I have many ideas for the sport of boxing. I can’t do anything if I’m always in the gym training and preparing for another upcoming fight. So I’m just focusing on that task,” he said.
The 25-year-old reiterated before his fight against josh taylor that he was going through difficult moments in his private life because his divorce was in process.
As a consequence, he has not been able to see his son and after winning last Saturday, he indicated that the next fight he was going to fight would be in court to have custody of his offspring.
