The US Coast Guard rescued three boaters from an offshore drilling rig near Freeport, Texas, early Sunday morning.
Officials said the Houston-Galveston Coast Guard Sector received a report at about 3 a.m. that the three Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office guardsmen were stranded after their ship began taking on water and sank. The Coast Guard then sent a crew to collect them.
“Watchstanders issued an urgent maritime information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew and dispatched an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew to assist,” the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement. a press release.
It added: “The Coast Guard aircrew located the position of the survivors and relayed it to the boat crew. Once the boat crew arrived at the scene, the three men were taken aboard and taken to Surfside Marina.”
