An Iowa couple lost their home in 2001 when a devastating tornado leveled much of the state.

However, more than two decades after this unfortunate event, they unexpectedly won $2 million in a Powerball drawing.

This million-dollar reward was obtained after 56-year-old Tammy Gordy went through her bag because she had some forgotten lottery tickets.

After reviewing the winning numbers, he got the shock of his life to discover that he had won $2 million with Powerball.

“I fell in my chair. I couldn’t see! There were all those zeros! I was like, ‘Maybe I need my glasses.’” So yeah, we screamed,” Gordy revealed in a press release.

In addition, the 56-year-old woman said that, along with her husband, they will use part of their earnings to finish the house that they have been slowly rebuilding after it was destroyed by a tornado in 2001.

The ticket purchased by the Iowa couple matched the first five winning numbers, but missed the Powerball.
