Juan Manuel “La Mummy” Montauti (46) was the protagonist of a film escape. A commando group ambushed a Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service (SPB) van and helped it escape. At least five armed criminals managed to overpower the guards. Now the judiciary is calling for his international arrest and has let Interpol intervene to prevent him from leaving the country. They examined the escape route with surveillance cameras and found a cell phone in his cell.
Montauti had a medical shift with an officer in charge, a driver and two guards. This Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. a dark Ford Ranger (blue or black) crossed them. Four attackers came down and carried out the blow with long weapons.
“We know where the truck went, we are following the trail through the surveillance cameras. The weapons they had reveal the level of organization of the gang, and you don’t see something like that every day,” confided sources from the investigation.
The suspects and the now-fugitive fled at full speed in the Ranger along Rivadavia Avenue (Route 6) and then drove up Route 9 toward San Nicolás, Télam reported.
The truth is that the investigators’ work in these hours is focused on finding out where the transporter continued its journey.

To free Montauti, the gang disarmed the prison officers. They stole three service weapons, one was thrown into the neighboring yard, the other fell while fleeing and the third was stolen.
Shortly after the escape, they searched the cell of Montauti in Campana Penal Unit 21, who was imprisoned on January 7, 2023 for robbing a tannery in Paso del Rey.
There they found a destroyed cell phone. The investigators assume that the commando coup was planned on the Alcatel 5033. Montauti made sure it was broken before his transfer.
Investigators are looking for a black or dark blue Ford Ranger.
Experts agreed that it would be impossible to restore the conversations and messages that “The Mummy” may have sent before the coup. He removed the chip and destroyed the computer’s circuit board, making it impossible to recover the information behind the cell phone.
Montauti was not tried for the robbery, which sent him back to prison. It was the third time he was transferred to the medical center, where he was treated for an alleged heart condition.

Since he was at the disposal of the Guaranteed Court No. 2 of Moreno, it was the prosecutor Leandro Ventricelli of the Public Prosecutor’s Office No. 1 of Moreno who had to request his international arrest and alerted Interpol and the Immigration Service. Although this process was still ongoing, it is almost impossible for Montauti to leave the country via an approved route. Due to his criminal record and preventive detention, immediate notification would be made. Although they cannot yet arrest him as he leaves the country, they would delay his arrest until his judicial status is confirmed.
Those involved in the tannery robbery investigation confirmed that Montauti was “very polite” and “calm” during the court proceedings for which he was arrested.
