Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan said on Tuesday that the world can get rid of the disease of climate change with environmentally friendly waste-free living.
“A large part of the waste we leave to nature consists of products that can be reused and have not yet completed their life cycle. It is entirely up to us what kind of footprint we leave on the planet!
In the video message he released at the second session of the UN Habitat Assembly, Erdogan said, “By making small changes in people’s daily lives, we can heal the world against climate change disease with an environmentally friendly, waste-free life.” said. .
Erdogan said that the “extraordinary success” of Turkey’s zero waste movement in a short time showed the world how important individual human effort is for environmental problems.
In 2017, Turkey launched the zero waste project under Erdogan’s auspices to highlight the importance of eliminating waste in tackling the climate crisis.
The project garnered international praise, and UN chief Antonio Guterres expressed his gratitude to Turkey’s First Lady at a conference in New York last September.
Last December, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution on Turkey’s zero waste initiative and declared March 30 as International Zero Waste Day.
“Undoubtedly, great strides have been made to save nature from waste that it cannot dispose of on its own. However, we still have a long way to go in an age where consumption has become the main target.
“I believe that the most radical change will take place when we abandon the waste culture and adopt a life style that almost never wastes,” Erdogan said.
He added that the spread of the global zero waste movement from country to country and from person to person shows that those days are not so far away.
