The clarity with which his face could be seen in the images analyzed at the commune’s Operations and Monitoring Center (COM) facilitated the investigation and it was possible to identify the alleged perpetrator of the shot that ended the life of Daniel Marcel, a man 78-year-old who came to the defense of his son, a well-known journalist from the city, when he was being robbed at the door of his house.
This is a 27-year-old man, identified as Nicolás Fernández, who had been arrested three hours after Marcel’s crime when he was shooting into the air in a nearby neighborhood. He had not yet been linked to the murder, but based on the work on the images obtained by the COM, the prosecutor Romina Díaz requested his arrest as the alleged perpetrator of the shots. His accomplice remains on the run,
At the time of the arrest, the Police seized a 9-millimeter pistol from Fernandez “that has some blood stains” and that must be examined to determine if it is specifically the weapon he used to kill Marcel.
The crime of Marcel, Marcelo’s father, a journalist with 30 years of experience in the city, shocked Mar del Plata. It happened on Friday night at the door of his father’s house, in the Gabito Bannat passage, in the Las Lilas neighborhood.
The assailants intercepted Marcelo, who was shot head-on. As luck would have it, the projectile did not come out of the gun. But in the struggle that followed the scene, Daniel Marcel was fatally wounded.
The victim was urgently transferred by ambulance to the Interzonal Hospital in Mar del Plata, where he entered the shock room unconscious with a gunshot wound that entered his left arm and exited through his skull. Despite the efforts of the medical professionals at the hospital, her death was confirmed shortly thereafter.
The thieves had left him lying in the street, and before leaving, they took the journalist’s wallet from the car.
Who is Marcelo Marcel?

He worked for just over a decade at Telediario, the Channel 10 newscast. On radio, before Miter, he had programs at Residencias, LU6 and was a correspondent for La Red. Since 2015 he has written for the digital news portal El Marplatense.
Marcel has a 30-year career in local media. During the administration of Mayor Carlos Arroyo, he was the Municipality’s Press Director.
The father of three daughters, a fanatic fan of River and well-known in the city, received public expressions of condolences on social networks for his father’s crime. Among others, the former mayor Gustavo Pulti and the current Secretary of Knowledge Economy, Juan Manuel Cheppi, expressed their solidarity with him.
