Four criminals approached him in a gray Peugeot 206 and when they saw that it was security cash, a shootout began.
An officer belonging to the Buenos Aires police was murdered last night, in an armed confrontation with four criminals who stole his motorcycle when he was traveling through the town of Burzaco, Almirante Brown district, police sources reported today.
The victim was identified as Horacio Ezequiel Borja López, 22, who belonged to the Buenos Aires Police as a member of Florencio Varela’s Motorized Prevention Group (GPM).
The crime occurred last night, around 9:00 p.m., at the intersection of Eduardo Cuitiño and Sarcione streets in that southern district of the suburbs, when Borja López was riding his Dominar 400 motorcycle to the house of a friend of his who lived in the area.
At that moment, while he was on the street, a gray Peugeot 206 car approached him with the criminals on board, who had booked him because of the motorcycle he was riding.
The group tried to assault him, to which Borja López identified himself as a police officer and the shooting began. According to the testimony of the neighbors, at least three shots were heard, one of them went to the officer’s head, who died almost immediately.
When the personnel of the 2nd Burzaco Police Station and doctors from the SAME medical service arrived, they confirmed his death. The spokesmen indicated that one of the thieves was also injured in the shooting due to a blood stain on the asphalt.
The informants indicated that during the early morning different procedures were carried out by the DDI of Lomas de Zamora and different police stations to catch the criminals.
Hospitals in all districts were also put on alert for a possible entry of a person shot.
In his free time as a police officer, the victim worked as a barber, since he owned his own shop called “Chulo Barber” in Rafael Calzada.
“I have a business here in the area and I heard the shots. There were two shots and another one. Then a car went by very quickly and the police came immediately. They stole the motorcycle and took it to Avenida Argentina,” said Sergio, a neighbor of the zone.
“There are robberies, like any neighborhood, but they don’t kill you. I thought they were the noise of the cut pipes of the motorcycles, not that they were shots,” said Juan, another resident of the area in dialogue with TN. “The police pass by, but very little,” he completed.
