Starlink, one of the companies of businessman Elon Musk, which provides high-speed internet service in the world will be available in Guatemala, as recently announced.
On Friday, May 19, the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SIT) issued a resolution authorizing the Starlink company as another Internet service provider in the country.
According to the company’s official website, Starlink is the most advanced broadband internet system in the world, thanks to a “satellite constellation” that uses low Earth orbit to offer the service that allows streaming content, playing on line and make video calls, among others.
“Through advanced satellites and user equipment, along with our extensive experience in spacecraft and orbit operations, Starlink offers high-speed, low-latency internet to users around the world,” the company detailed.

When requesting the service on the Starlink page, it is mentioned that you can place the order now to reserve the equipment.
“Starlink anticipates offering service in your area beginning in the third quarter of 2023. Availability is subject to regulatory approval. Orders will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis in each coverage area,” the company said.
According to official data, to acquire the equipment you must make a payment of US$9 (Q70.27).

In publications of various media specialized in technology, it is mentioned that this payment corresponds to the equipment used to connect to the satellites. However, each user must pay a monthly cost for the service.
According to reports, the monthly payment in Mexico is US$61.55 (Q480) and in El Salvador it is US$49 (Q382.60). So far it is unknown what the monthly price will be in Guatemala.
According to the company, Starlink’s service is without a contract and you can do a trial for 30 days, and if the customer is not satisfied, return the equipment and receive a full refund of the kit price.
