On average, every day 20 foreign citizens, mainly from the Middle East, are detected by the police during their attempts to travel from border countries to the European Union.
Official police data show that for 6 months the services stopped the travel of 3600 citizens from Syria, Algeria and other countries in conflict
The phenomenon continues to be disturbing. Albania continues to use transit. Meanwhile, Albanian citizens who work as transporters, travel from the south of the country to the border points with Montenegro, Kosovo and the Port of Durrës, which is one of the gateways to Italy.
The arrested are justified that they were engaged as transporters for humanitarian reasons. But a 52-year-old man from Elbasan has confessed here in court that he transported some Bangladeshis, because he needed money to pay off debts.
Citizen Tonin Hasa, who is being investigated as an assistant to the clandestines, used the argument in court that he too had to migrate within the country for economic reasons.
“Since I am in difficult economic conditions and salaries in Elbasan are low, I had heard that in Saranda they pay well and there are jobs in agriculture. On the way to secure a job I saw some people who raised their hands and I took them. What I heard from them was only the word Saranda”, the suspect declares.
But although the 52-year-old has insisted that he has debts to repay, that he has an elderly mother and a sick wife, the Court of Appeal decided against him from house arrest to prison arrest. The aggravation of his position happened after the 29 immigrants from Bangladesh indicated that they had paid 500 euros to a citizen from Arabia, who had informed them that a vehicle would arrive to pick them up. And so it happened until the police stopped them.
He asked the court to reduce the security measure from house arrest to a lighter one. But the court aggravated his position by announcing a prison sentence.
“I am in economic difficulties. I have debts and my 81-year-old mother is sick”, testified the suspect as a smuggler.
The sick and medicated unemployed wife continues the suspect. Arguing before the judges that the foreigners, with a place of origin in the Middle East, it turns out that they were detected by the police services during their attempts to travel to the European Union.
Officially, the police state for Top Channel that more than half of them turn out to be repeat offenders, of which more than half of them are.
