A transformer exploded Friday at the Warner Bros. Discovery studios in Burbank, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished, firefighters said.
The fire was reported just before 1:40 p.m. in the studio, known for its iconic water tower. Images posted on social media showed a large plume of black smoke rising into the sky.
Jessica Zacholl, a spokesperson for Warner Bros., said a nearby transformer had failed, causing an electrical fire.
“We were curious to see what was going on and one of our colleagues saw smoke coming from that area,” said Roger Rodriguez, who works in the iHeartMedia building down the street. “There was a power surge just as the fire broke out.”

The transformer was located next to the Warner Bros. fire department, which responded with help from the Burbank and Glendale fire departments.
At least two nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution and no injuries were reported.
According to Burbank officials, the fire was extinguished by 2:03 p.m. with no damage to buildings.
