MISSISSAUGA, Ont. –
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced $625 million in funding to help counties and territories build childcare infrastructure.
Trudeau says the money will roll out over four years and help providers renovate, adapt and build new nonprofit and public childcare facilities.
The announcement follows the childcare infrastructure fund promised by the Liberal government in the 2022 budget.
It is intended to complement the National Child Care Program, which aims to provide childcare for an average of $10 per day by 2026.
Parents across the country have already seen costs reduced by at least 50 percent on average.
Advocates and experts have expressed concern about a lack of space to accommodate the growing demand for subsidized childcare.
