Former President Donald Trump’s legal team is in for a major shakeup following his indictment in the classified documents investigation.

In a surprise move, Trump announced that two of his top lawyers, Jim Trusty and John Rowley, were leaving the case.

Among other things, the former American leader added that Todd Blanche, a defense lawyer he hired in April after he was indicted in Manhattan, would continue with the case temporarily.

Soon after, Trusty and Rowley released a joint statement in which they said they were resigning from the legal team entirely.

They announced that they were confident that Trump would be vindicated in his long-running legal battle, while stressing that they did not plan to go to the media or reveal the conversations they had with Trump.

Trump faces seven criminal charges related to the handling of important government materials he took with him when he left the White House in January 2021.

Investigators seized about 13,000 documents from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, nearly a year ago.

The indictment of a former US president is unprecedented in US history and comes at a time when Trump is the leading candidate for the presidency next year.

The case does not prevent Trump from campaigning or taking office if he were to win the November 2024 presidential election. Legal experts say there would be no basis to block his swearing-in even if he were convicted and sent to prison. .
