Health screening conducted for people with albinism at the Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu by the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TİKA).

A health screening was conducted for 35 people with albinism living in the Banaadir region and sunscreen, sunglasses and clothing were provided to protect them from the sun.

Albinism, a genetic disease in which there is too little or no pigment in the skin, eyes or hair, is considered bad luck in some parts of Africa due to superstition. Having a hard time participating in social life, people with albinism lag behind in finding work and taking advantage of the opportunity to study.
