Two teenage boys have died while riding their electric scooters after colliding with a vehicle in Wales in a tragedy that has sparked violent protests in Wales.

Close friends Kyrees Sullivan, 15, and Harvey Evans, 16, were hit by a vehicle near their home in the poor area of Ely in Cardiff yesterday afternoon.

But violent protests erupted in the area after unconfirmed reports spread that they were being followed by a police car.

Multiple police forces came to the area after reports from locals that protesters had overturned vehicles and burned them as a sign of anger towards the authorities.

The London government said today that the violence was unacceptable and that they were “grateful to the emergency services who had “supported the community and restored order”.

The area was being cleared today after about 150 young protesters, most of them masked, burned and smashed cars and fired fireworks at the police, among whom there were injuries, according to reports.

Friends of the two dead boys said they had grown up together and often went out on motorbikes in the west Cardiff area.

John Silver, 19, said: ‘The Kyrees and Harvey were close friends, they had grown up together and had always ridden motorbikes. They were on electric skateboards when they were killed. The police always chased them when they saw them even though they say they weren’t chasing them.”

“Harvey’s mayors were good guys who didn’t cause trouble.”

Police representative Heledd Fychan said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the boys who lost their lives. There will be a full investigation into the tragic incident and the violence that followed.”

Labour’s Police Commissioner for Wales, Alun Michael, said two young men had died in a skateboarding accident and that false rumors had been spread about police involvement.

The police have not yet commented on what happened before the accident, but there is evidence that the officers had tried to stop the young men for driving skateboards on the street or public spaces.
