DONETSK
Fierce clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces on the frontline in Ukraine’s Donetsk region continue amid Kiev’s ongoing counteroffensive against Moscow.
In early June, the Ukrainian army claimed that the villages of Storozheve and Neskuchne were taken from Russian control and all the houses in the villages were abandoned.
In the midst of frequent artillery and tank fire near the two villages, Ukrainian soldiers continue to fire mortars at Russian forces.
“These villages were liberated on 11 June as a result of successful attacks by Ukrainian soldiers. “Russian soldiers tried to resist but failed,” said Ivan Content, a military official in the region, in an interview with Anadolu.
Stating that Storozheve and Neskuchne were taken under Russian control in March 2022, Kapakun said that the Russian forces left their positions by leaving ammunition and weapons in the region.
Noting that the scope, some Russian soldiers fighting in the region were taken prisoner, he noted that the villages in question had become ruined and unusable.
“There are no people in the villages. There are only a few dogs and cats. There are mines everywhere,” said Scope.
Although Ukraine continued its counterattack in the region and was determined to reclaim its territory, shortages of weapons and ammunition slowed their attack.
The army needs more weapons. “The weapons should be delivered to Ukraine as soon as possible,” he said.
Separately, Anton, a Ukrainian soldier in the region, said they were trying to minimize the loss of troops to Anatolia as much as possible.
Another Ukrainian soldier, Pavel, said they were advancing “slowly but steadily” towards Anatolia towards their goal of liberating Ukrainian lands.
“I wish patience and strength to our soldiers on the front. We will win the war because these are our lands. We are in our own home, protecting what belongs to us,” said Pavel.
