Korosi said Francis “brings with him nearly 40 years of knowledge and experience in the diplomatic service of Trinidad and Tobago, making him his country’s longest-serving ambassador.”
“With his vast experience and unique perspective coming from a small island developing state, I am confident that the General Assembly will be in capable hands at the next session,” Korosi said. said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Francis “comes at a deeply challenging moment for the human family: conflicts and climate chaos, rising poverty, hunger and inequality, insecurity and division.”
“In the face of all these problems, the world is looking to this assembly to unite its member states on common solutions. President-elect Francis brings a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge to this fundamental task,” he said.
