The Serbian President, Aleksandër Vucic, has said that the escalation of the situation in Kosovo has not reached its peak and that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, wants war.
“He wants everything to happen that I want to avoid. We have not reached the peak of escalation of the crisis in Kosovo, as some think, but Kurti wants war. He prays for something like this,” the Serbian president told Pink Television in Belgrade.
He said that Kurti will not allow the formation of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, although it should be formed “in accordance with the signed agreements”.
Kosovo and Serbia have reached agreement on the Association in 2013 and then in 2015 on the principles for its establishment.
In 2015, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo found that the agreement is not in full harmony with the Constitution.
Serbia demands that Kosovo implement the agreements reached, but the Government of Kosovo has declared against a mono-ethnic association.
According to Vucic, the Kosovo Security Force is “more equipped” with serious Turkish weapons.
He said that Kosovo is building an army, which is not allowed by the resolution of the Security Council of the United Nations.
“The Turks have given them very powerful anti-tank weapons, mortars, howitzers.”
He said that for this reason, Serbia has given up buying drones from Turkey, but that a large number of kamikaze drones will soon reach Serbia from other countries, including China.
Asked about the approach of the United States towards Serbia, Vucic said that “the Americans do not have the same approach to Serbia, as in the 90s”, but the approach is “much better”.
“They just have the same approach to Kosovo”, said Vučič, and added that one should be very careful “what the West and the East will say”.
Vucic said on Sunday that he should meet with the Serbs from the north of Kosovo, where tensions have increased since the end of May, when the new Albanian mayors, with the help of the Kosovo Police, entered the municipal buildings of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.
The West has repeatedly asked Kosovo and Serbia to reduce tensions and return to the negotiating table to advance towards the normalization of relations.
Kosovo and Serbia are part of the dialogue mediated by the EU, for the normalization of relations, since 2011.
The parties have signed many agreements, but not all of them have been implemented./ REL
