Washington State Republican Party Chairman Caleb Heimlich said Monday that he is stepping down from his position.
Heimlich, 37, wrote in a message to state GOP officials obtained by The Seattle Times Monday that while it was a tremendous honor to serve as chairman for more than five years, he has accepted a job with a grassroots national organization that will provide a better quality of life for his family, the paper reported.
His resignation will take effect Aug. 12, when the GOP state committee meets in Olympia to elect a new chairman.

After 12 years in office, Caleb Heimlich, a Washington state Republican chairman, plans to step down for a new job at a grassroots organization.
“After 12 and a half years with the Washington State Republican Party, it’s time for a change,” Heimlich wrote in the message to GOP officials, citing the commute from his Pierce County home to Bellevue as the reason for the change.
Heimlich was elected in 2018, following former TV news anchor Susan Hutchison.

Prior to taking the top position, Heimlich had worked for the state party since 2011 as Political Director and Executive Director.
Heimlich’s departure comes amid the Republican Party’s struggles. Republicans now hold no elected offices statewide, and the party lost a congressional seat and seats in the legislature in last year’s midterm elections.
