The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported the situation of the sinking in Boca del Monte, in the descent of La Joya, where a failure in the drainage system caused a sinkhole that left the section disabled for the passage of vehicles. .
According to the official report, the sinking occurred in La Joya, on 1st. avenue and 7 street in zone 3 Boca del Monte, Villa Canales, Guatemala.
It indicates that this occurred due to undermining due to the collapse of drainage in the sector.
As a result of the undermining there are two houses at risk, an equal number of families and a total of 8 people in this condition.
The collapse affected a street with about 30,000 vehicles.
On September 26, after learning of the collapse, the Municipal Traffic Police completely closed 7th Street and this complicates traffic in the sector since it is used as a reversible route for people coming from the south to the capital.
The damages
According to the Conred report, the evaluation detected that the asphalt layer collapsed due to an undercut approximately 3 meters in diameter and 2 meters deep, which caused the collapse of the drainage pipe near a viewing well.
The Conred mentioned that municipal personnel will visit this September 27, 2023 to carry out the corresponding evaluations and determine the situation. In addition, an evaluation was requested by the Mitigation Directorate staff.
