The Foreign Ministry reported that consular officials of the Government of Guatemala are following up on the case of two compatriots who disappeared on April 9 in a river in Dallas County, Texas, United States, where it is presumed that they lost their lives by drowning.
He added that through the Guatemalan Consulate in Dallas it was determined that the Guatemalans are two young people, ages 17 and 20, both originally from San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz.
According to the authorities, both submerged in the Trinity River and have not appeared, so they were reported lost.
The rescue forces have found it difficult to search for the two young people, because there is a lot of suction in the part of the river where they sank, making the task dangerous.
Therefore, according to information from the detective in charge of the case, drone surveillance is maintained in surrounding areas to continue the search.
Consular officials have communicated with relatives of the compatriots in the US and in Guatemala, who are provided with updated information on the case.
