Eight roller coaster riders were upside down on Sunday during a carnival ride at a Wisconsin festival.

The hiatus occurred at the Forest County Festival in Crandon, about 230 miles north of Milwaukee.

The riders on the Fire Ball were trapped for at least three hours while first responders worked to bring them down safely.

“All we know is there is a mechanical failure on the ride where it got stuck in the upright position,” Crandon Fire Brigade Captain Brennan Cook told WJFW-TV. “The ride was recently inspected by the State of Wisconsin on site and at this time we have no other information.”

He said a little girl who was trapped told firefighters to rescue an elderly man “because he was having a hard time.”
