While Sub-Saharan Africa continues to fight against infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TUBERCULOSIS AND MALARIA and with all international efforts focused on these diseases and progress in several countries, Sub-Saharan Africa is heading for another epidemic , this cardiovascular disease. Recent statistics have shown that cardiovascular disease will become the number one cause of death in developing countries over the next 10 to 15 years, but it is quite possible that sub-Saharan Africa is already experiencing an epidemic, as there is no data to estimate the magnitude and burden of the disease, to determine the population distribution of cardiovascular disease.
When sub-Saharan Africa gets bogged down in its battle to win the battle against communicable diseases, little or no attention is paid to chronic and non-communicable diseases, mixed with competition from other social and health programs. As some might suggest, Africa has a lot more to do than good quality research, but without it one might not know the best way to tackle this problem. Enough talk without enough action, now is the time to dedicate resources to this disease without a face that will deprive sub-Saharan Africa of the labor it needs, leave families shattered when their loved ones suddenly and most importantly sub-Saharan pass away. Sahara Africa will be doubly in danger.
