The Honduran Defense Minister, José Manuel Zelaya, confirmed this Friday afternoon that they will make direct purchases to build the prison on the Swan Islands, in the Caribbean.

“The people want solutions, they urgently need attention, and today President Castro has given special missions so that the Armed Forces can fulfill those functions,” Zelaya explained.

Together with the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, José Fortín Aguilar, they detailed that they will provide resources for penal centers with emergency decrees.

Zelaya explained that in order for the Armed Forces to more easily execute the construction of the penal farm in the Islas del Cisne and the completion of the prison in Naco, Cortés, the direct purchase was ordered.

“Those are the two missions that the president has assigned, following the procedures that the State contracting law itself specifically mentions for the term of direct contracting,” he said.

“The president has been clear on the new missions and responsibilities of our Armed Forces. We have already issued the necessary instructions, we are already working on the plans together with our National Police so that this entire mission can be carried out in the best possible way,” said Vice Admiral Fortin.

The military high command explained that the commander of the Military Police is already carrying out all the necessary planning to be able to get involved in the mission entrusted to him by President Castro.
