Memphis guard Ja Morant has been suspended for the first 25 games of the upcoming season for his second known incident in which he displayed what appeared to be a firearm on social media, the NBA announced Friday.
Morant will also have to meet certain conditions before he is reinstated, the NBA said. It is the second time in the past three months that he has been suspended for displaying a firearm on social media, following an eight-game suspension in March.
“Ja Morant’s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disturbing given his similar behavior in March for which he was already suspended for eight games,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “The potential for other young people to emulate Ja’s behavior is particularly concerning. Under the circumstances, we believe a 25-match suspension is appropriate and make it clear that reckless and irresponsible conduct with guns will not be tolerated.”
