For a few days the weather has been strange in Laboulaye. The strange heat of this winter accompanies the anger and unease experienced by the residents of this peaceful city in the Cordoba pampas.

The crime of Joaquín Sperani (14) is the only theme in the streets of the town after the tragic outcome that was the discovery of his body in a house located a few meters from his school. Hours later, the confession of his best friend, also 14, was the last straw.

“Since they were little, they were always inseparable,” said Sara, a neighbor of Joaquín’s family and one of Laboulaye’s mothers who came out to ask for Justice for the adolescent’s crime. The two boys have been friends since they were 8 years old, when they started third grade.

In the town, the stories insist that the relationship between the two adolescents was intense since they were very young.

Joaquín Sperani was 14 years old and was found beaten to death in Laboulaye, Córdoba. His best friend confessed to the crime.

And among the researchers, there are some indications that suggest a motivation linked to jealousy that led to a fierce and unexpected attack.

Joaquín practiced taekwondo and the autopsy found no signs that he had defended himself from the attack. Other sources of the investigation indicate that the attack was from behind, that the victim never expected it and that the first blow would have been fatal.

The Three Musketeers”

In the accounts of the environment of the murdered adolescent, details emerge that begin to be revealed with the passing of the hours.

At school there is talk of a friendly trio made up of Joaquín, the close friend who confessed to the crime, and a teenager, also a schoolmate. They called themselves “The Three Musketeers” and almost every day they walked through the streets of the city in the south of Cordoba.

“They were together all the time, almost always separated from the rest of the boys,” says a neighbor from the town.

The other piece of information that an educational authority gave in the last hours indicates that several weeks ago Joaquín and his friend began to sit separately in the classroom after a lifetime of being side by side, bench against bench.

Something seems to have happened in the last few weeks before the crime to bring it to an abrupt and terrible end.

There are those who speak of a traumatic separation motivated by some unknown reason. But everything is a reason for investigation and at that level it will be key to determine which messages were deleted from Joaquín’s cell phone that was kidnapped from his friend, the main defendant in the crime.

After misleading the police officers who had been leading the search since last Friday, there are images that show when the defendant drops Joaquín’s cell phone, presumably minutes after having committed the crime.

Later, the policemen claimed the device from him and, when he recognized that it did not belong to his father as he had suggested, he ended up confessing to the murder.

With these tests and the elements that the policemen collected at the scene of the crime, Judge Sebastián Moro must delve into the motivations for the crime and what type of legal and psychological treatment the adolescent who was transferred to the Esperanza Complex in the capital must face. provincial.

In front of Ipem 278 “Malvinas Argentinas”, at the corner of Pasco and Daireaux, a teenager told Clarín that Joaquín was a “good friend” and someone who never failed anyone.

The girl recounted that she was at the moment they found the body in the house located a few meters from the school. “I was handing out flyers with Joaquín’s photo in front of the house and I heard the screams of the cousin who was inside. When I entered I saw Joaquín lying face down on the floor,” said the teenager.

The Ipem 278 “Malvinas Argentinas”, the school that Joaquín and his two friends attended.

“Joaquín supported us all and never failed us,” she said and asked: “I don’t know why he did this and I’m convinced it was him,” said the minor who said she had known him since they were kids and that the only thing she asks for is that he “rest in peace”.

“My children shared the entire school with Joaquín and he was a very good and respectful boy,” says Sara, a neighbor of the Speranis.

In addition, he stated that the families of the two friends also spent a lot of time together. “They almost always met in the fields and they were seen around the town as if they were a single family,” the woman said.

Parents’ doubts

This Tuesday, Martín Sperani and Mariela Flores, Joaquín’s parents, were received by Judge Sebastián Moro. They appeared together with the lawyer Raúl Frencia, who took over their representation in the last hours.

The couple did not make statements after that meeting in which they received details of the progress of the investigation. Then they went through the office of the mayor of Laboulaye. A few hours earlier, on Monday night, Mariela Flores led a march of silence in the streets of the town and made clear her suspicion that more than one person participated in the crime of her son.

A security camera captured an image of Joaquín Sperani (14) with his friend, before the crime, in Laboulaye.

“I have the feeling that there is something more behind all this. I feel like it wasn’t just (the friend). There must have been more people. I want to see Joaquín’s entire journey, from my house to school until he appeared, ”said the woman in tears.

The answers that Joaquín’s parents are waiting for have to do with the motive for the crime, which until now is a true mystery.

“If he is the culprit, let him serve a life sentence because my son will never leave the cemetery again,” he claimed. The complexity of the case is that Joaquín’s friend is not criminally charged because he is under 16, he cannot be tried and, therefore, he will not receive a sentence for the crime.

The mother’s suspicion is shared by other parents in the city who do not understand how and why a child under the age of 14 could have acted so viciously and alone.

But among the teams in charge of the investigation there are not many doubts about the sole responsibility of the crime. And this has to do with the forcefulness of the initial confession of Joaquín’s friend and murderer.

In the next few hours, some kind of public statement is expected on the progress of the judicial investigation, which until now has been handled in deep secrecy.

The truth is that the community that this Monday filled the streets of the town to say goodbye to the remains of Joaquín, now awaits Justice to be done and to determine what happened last Thursday afternoon in the abandoned house of Sarmiento and Daireaux.
