A New York City mother testified that the office of Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg treated her and her family “like garbage” as she sought prosecution of those responsible for her son’s death.
Madeline Brame appeared Monday before the NYC House Judiciary Committee field hearing, testifying about her son’s murder and the years of litigation that followed. Brame denounced both Bragg’s handling of the case and New York’s greater justice system, saying millions of taxpayer dollars were wasted even as crime increased.
Bragg has “released criminal elements of all kinds to do what they want, when they want, however they want, with whomever they want, without consequence — without deterrence,” Brame testified. “Millions and billions of our hard-earned tax dollars go to organizations that are doing absolutely nothing to deter this crime.”
“I suggest not another penny of our federal tax dollars be pumped into (soft police organizations) until they can produce measurable results of the effectiveness of what they do with our tax dollars,” she continued. “And as for this district attorney’s office, if he gets a penny of federal dollars, get that funding in until he starts doing his goddamn job and prosecuting crime.”

army sergeant. Hason Correa was killed in a 2018 stabbing in NYC, and his mother claims DA Alvin Bragg botched prosecution of his attackers.
Brame’s son, Hason Correa, was stabbed nine times in front of his father in 2018. His attackers were said to be Mary Saunders, her brother, and another man. Prosecutors worked the case for more than four years, but Bragg’s office was unable to prove that Saunders had knowingly assisted in Correa’s murder.
“Mary Saunders, the sister involved in the murder, (Bragg) dismissed her charges and charged her with assault with a shoe, and sentenced her to one year in prison. Travis Stewart – (Bragg) dismissed his gang and murder charges and sentenced him to attempted gang assault,” Brame said.
Brame added that both Saunders and Stewart “clearly participated on video in my son’s relentless, savage carnage.”
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, DN.Y., later pointed out that two of the defendants have been convicted and are serving life sentences for killing Correa.

Brame was one of several witnesses to testify Monday at the field hearing that R-Ohio Chairman Jim Jordan convened in an effort to highlight New York City’s crime problem. Jordan has argued that Bragg should be more focused on violent crime than prosecuting former President Trump.
