A 14-year-old student attacked two 9-year-old girls with an ax this Wednesday at a Brazilian school located in the rural Farías Brito area of the Carirí region, in the interior of the state of Ceará, in the northwest of the country. The assailant was arrested and was prosecuted for attempted murder.
Far from being an isolated incident, this episode was aligned with the tragic event that a 25-year-old man carried out on April 5, when he murdered four children between the ages of 4 and 7 with an ax in a kindergarten in Blumenau, Santa Catarina state.
In the most recent case, the two 9-year-old victims, who are in fourth grade, were hospitalized in a Barbalha hospital. One of them was discharged, while the other continues in intensive care awaiting an operation for a head injury.
Júnior Almeida, Secretary of Education of the Municipality, reported that classes were suspended for the next two days and that the attack occurred in the afternoon during school hours, when the students were in their classrooms.

Our government will have what is necessary to support the municipality and families.”

A man who entered a day care center with an ax killed four children on April 5 and injured at least four others on Wednesday in southern Brazil, authorities said. The victims would be between five and seven years old, according to local media.
The governor of the state of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello, confirmed the murders in the city of Blumenau on his Twitter account, writing that the killer has been arrested. Firefighters confirmed that the man attacked with an ax and that three children were taken to hospital.

“An individual entered the school with a knife and killed four children. There were also four injuries,” this source explained.
The perpetrator of the attack, a 25-year-old man, turned himself in at a Military Police headquarters, where he was detained, the force said in a statement.
The police confirmed the four deaths and other boys transferred to hospitals in the city to be assisted. According to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, the victims were three boys and a girl, all between five and seven years old.
