Many Arab countries condemned the burning of the Quran, the holy book of Muslims, in front of a mosque in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on Wednesday.

“These hateful and repeated acts are unacceptable for any reason and openly fuel hatred, exclusion and racism,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said late Wednesday.

“Burning the Holy Quran is a dangerous act of hate, a manifestation of Islamophobia, which fuels violence and humiliates religions, and cannot be considered a form of freedom of expression in any way,” the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

“The attack on the Holy Quran by a hateful extremist is an expression of hatred and racism, and a despicable attack on the values ​​of tolerance, acceptance, democracy and peaceful coexistence among members of all religions,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said. ” said.

In addition, the Arab Parliament, in a statement, stated that the events were “an act of provocation that will inflame the feelings of Muslims around the world” and condemned the continuation of these “provocations” by the Swedish authorities.

On Wednesday, a person identified as Salwan Momika burned a Quran under police protection in front of Stockholm Mosque.

On June 12, a Swedish appeals court upheld a lower court’s decision to lift the ban on Quran burning and ruled that police had no legal basis to block two Quran burning protests earlier this year.
