Argentine president meets with Brazilian Lula

WASHINGTON

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez visited Brazil on Monday, where he was received by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at an official ceremony at the Planalto Palace.

During his visit to mark the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Argentina, Fernandez underlined the deep friendship and inseparable bond between the two countries and expressed his gratitude to Lula for his hospitality.

Referring to the financial crisis Argentina is facing, Fernandez turned to Lula for support.

After the tete-a-tete and delegation meetings, a joint statement was issued reiterating Brazil’s political and economic support for Argentina and emphasizing its commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

During the talks between Argentina and Brazil, areas such as finance, infrastructure, transportation, energy, mining, communication, science and technology, defense, security, culture, health, sports and tourism were discussed.

In addition to meeting with Lula, Fernandez also visited Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco and Supreme Federal Court President Rosa Weber.

As a token of gratitude, Lula presented Fernandez with the Order of the Southern Cross, the highest honor bestowed on foreign dignitaries.
