Fox News’ Sean Hannity spoke on Thursday night’s broadcast about the Marine veteran who reportedly putting a black homeless person in a fatal stranglehold on the New York subway, and a member of Hannity’s live studio audience cheered.

A medical examiner has ruled the death of Jordan Neely, 30, to be homicide. Neely was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis and yelling at other passengers, witnesses said. The passenger who choked Neely for several minutes has not been charged.

Hannity broadcast cellphone footage of Neely in the chokehold and said: “After making violent threats, acting erratically, a mentally ill homeless person with a long history of violent crime was, well, subdued by a bystander, a 24-year-old marine vet.”

“Wow!” shouted someone in the audience. It is unknown whether the audience member knew at that exact moment that Neely had died, given that Hannity’s description had not yet mentioned the death.

“The homeless man, his name is Jordan Neely,” Hannity added. “He lost consciousness during the incident. He later, unfortunately, tragically, he is a homeless person, he has mental problems. My heart goes out to him and his family. Now, of course, it’s a tragedy on every level.”

At the start of the show, Hannity said he had a “rowdy audience” in the studio and joked that they had been “drinking heavily”.
