Biden issues first influence veto of his presidency

President Biden vetoed a bill for the first time in his presidency on Monday, arguing that the legislation had been overly influenced by “MAGA Republicans.”

Republican-led legislation prevented the Biden administration from considering environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues when making investment decisions. GOP lawmakers argue that ESG is a measure of a company’s loyalty to cultural movements that “awakened” and should not be taken into account.

“I just vetoed my first bill. This bill would jeopardize your retirement savings by making it illegal to account for risk factors that MAGA House Republicans don’t like. Your plan administrator should be able to protect your hard-earned savings — or it now it’s about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene like it or not,” Biden announced in a tweet Monday.
