The announcement is part of a series of changes at the highest level at the controversial American aircraft manufacturer.

Boeing says Chief Executive Officer Dave Calhoun will step down at the end of the year as part of a management change at the embattled US aircraft manufacturer.

The company also said Monday that Chairman Larry Kellner would leave the board and be replaced by Steve Mollenkopf. Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, is retiring and Stephanie Pope will lead that company.

Calhoun has been under pressure since a 737 MAX aircraft door blew out 16,000 feet above the ground.

Boeing faces heavy regulations and U.S. authorities have restricted production as the company tries to resolve safety and quality issues.
