An explosive ordnance disposal squad was called on Wednesday after the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum in California received a live grenade as a donation.

Trevor Allen, the museum’s executive director, told Fox News Digital that the live explosive came from a “well-meaning” donor.

Museum staff moved the object out of the reach of visitors, alerted authorities and evacuated the building. Police closed the street and called an explosive ordnance squad from nearby Travis Air Force Base.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service deemed the ammunition safe to transport back to base after an on-site visual inspection and X-ray scan. The item is now at Travis Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and will remain there to avoid future problems, the base said.
