Speaking at the Itamaraty Palace in the capital Brasília, he said, “We need to form a group of countries that try to sit down with both Ukraine and Russia to find peace.”
Lula also expressed his government’s “concern over the effects of the war beyond the European continent”.
“I reiterated my concerns about the global implications of this conflict for food and energy security, particularly in the poorest areas of the planet,” he said.
On Monday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira denied White House national security spokesman John Kirby’s remarks that his country was “faking Russian and Chinese propaganda.”
Viera’s comments followed a meeting earlier that day with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in which he called for “respect for humanitarian law and a negotiated solution to a lasting peace that addresses the concerns of both Russia and Ukraine, as well as neutrality”. countries” will mediate the negotiations.
Lavrov thanked Brazil for its efforts to end the war and said the Russian government is interested in resolving the conflict as soon as possible.
