Speaking at the Itamaraty Palace in the capital Brasília, he said, “We need to form a group of countries that try to sit down with both Ukraine and Russia to find peace.”

Lula also expressed his government’s “concern over the effects of the war beyond the European continent”.

“I reiterated my concerns about the global implications of this conflict for food and energy security, particularly in the poorest areas of the planet,” he said.

On Monday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira denied White House national security spokesman John Kirby’s remarks that his country was “faking Russian and Chinese propaganda.”
