The Buenos Aires City Police carried out a major operation in the Villa Lugano neighborhood, where a clandestine textile workshop was discovered that was engaged in the production and sale of counterfeit sportswear. Garments with a market value close to two and a half million pesos were seized.

During the comprehensive inspection carried out by the Misconduct and Offenses division, in collaboration with the Government Control Agency (AGC), a large number of counterfeit garments with logos of well-known Argentine sports brands and soccer teams were seized.

The authorities closed the workshop due to various irregularities related to safety and hygiene, which led to an end to the illegal activities that were carried out there. City Police officers were surprised to find numerous fake sportswear items, including 120 Adidas jackets from Boca Juniors and River Plate, 132 Argentina National Team shirts and 22 River divers and the Association of Argentine Soccer (AFA).

The market value of the seized merchandise amounts to approximately 2.4 million pesos, which demonstrates the magnitude of the illegal activity that was taking place in this clandestine workshop. The owner of the workshop, a 43-year-old Bolivian citizen, was charged with the crime of counterfeiting brands.

This operation is part of a broader investigation that aims to discourage the production and sale of counterfeit clothing for the Argentine National Team, especially in view of the upcoming South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Copa América.

The National Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 12, in charge of Dr. Ariel Lijo, and the secretariat No. 23 in charge of Dr. Paola Kohen endorsed the procedure carried out by the security forces and supported the kidnapping of the commodity.

They seized more than 11 thousand trout labels of leading brands

After the complaint of a well-known premium brand in July 2022, the Federal Police began an investigation that allowed them to disrupt a gang that -according to them- was dedicated to manufacturing and selling false labels for making trout clothes.

In the raid on a local in the Merlo district, in the west of Greater Buenos Aires, the investigators seized more than 11,000 of these labels, in addition to other elements for their manufacture, violating the National Law on Trademarks and Designations.

The premises are in the town of Parque San Martín, at 100 Mozart Street, near the intersection with Ricardo Balbín Avenue (route 40), in the southwest of the municipality, according to the regional media outlet Viví El Oeste.

After the complaint made by Lacoste, the police managed to establish that the labels, logos and patches of that and other well-known first-line brands would be manufactured and sold in that place.

At the scene, investigators found some 2,000 labels from the complainant company. But there was much more: they also seized 1,500 from Nike, 1,200 from New Balance and 1,150 from Tommy Hilfiger.
