Van der Sloot is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba in May 2005 during a senior trip to Mountain Brook High School, Alabama.

The Dutch national is now facing charges of racketeering and wire fraud in the US after allegedly attempting to sell Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, information about the location of her daughter’s body.

Federal prosecutors say Van der Sloot asked for $250,000 – $25,000 upfront for the information, with the remainder to be paid when Natalee Holloway’s body was positively identified.

However, Van der Sloot lied to Beth Holloway’s lawyer, John Q. Kelly, about the whereabouts of her daughter’s remains, US prosecutors said.

Van der Sloot then traveled to Peru and met Stephany Flores, 21, at a Lima casino owned by her father. Van der Sloot admitted to killing Flores and claimed he killed her on May 30, 2010, in a fit of rage after the 21-year-old discovered he was connected to Natalee Holloway’s disappearance.

He was originally sentenced to 28 years in prison for Flores’ murder, but more time was added due to a drug smuggling scandal involving him while in prison.
