In a huge operation that included investigative work on three continents, the National Gendarmerie managed to dismantle a dangerous drug-criminal organization that recruited people to transport drugs through deceptive jobs. The actions of this transnational drug trafficking network were exposed after a series of arrests made in different countries.
The case dates back to last August, when an Argentine citizen was arrested in Thailand while trying to enter the Asian country with 12 kilos of cocaine hidden in towels. Then, in March of this year, the Airport Security Police received a report about two new victims detained in Ethiopia, who were carrying 10 kilos and 800 grams of the same drug.
Given these alarming events, the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2 of Morón ordered the agents of the Gendarmerie Anti-drug Operations Squad to carry out an exhaustive investigation, which lasted from November 2022. Thanks to the data collected and Through wiretapping, the agents were able to confirm the existence of a drug trafficking network that operated internationally, recruiting deceived people through false job offers.
The victims were captured in Argentine territory and then sent by bus to Brazil, from where they boarded planes to destinations such as India, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia, Dubai and Ethiopia. The organization preyed on the innocence and neediness of these people, turning them into unwitting drug “mules.”
