Biden SEC commissioner grilled on Steele filing payment

Securities and Exchange Commissioner Gary Gensler was pressured Tuesday over his role in the 2016 Hillary Clinton for president campaign, and whether he facilitated payment for the Steele dossier, a treasure trove of unverified rumors about Donald Trump.

Gary Gensler, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), clashed Tuesday with Republican Representative Byron Donalds during a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing.

Gensler appeared before the committee to discuss his department’s recent crackdown on cryptocurrency services.

Gensler, who has been with the SEC since 2021, was questioned by Donalds about his time as CFO of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

“Have you facilitated payment for the Steele file since you were CFO of the Hillary Clinton campaign?” asked Donalds, referring to the compendium of unverified rumors about Donald Trump shared with the FBI.

The scandalous dossier — funded by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign through law firm Perkins Coie — provided the liberal media with numerous anti-Trump headlines, cable news segments and set the tone for years of daily, frenetic Russiagate coverage.

In previous testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta named Gensler as the campaign’s top money handler associated with Perkins Coie.
