In Brussels, on Thursday and Friday, the summit of the leaders of the European Union will be held, from which support will also be expressed for the Ohrid agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, and a call will be made to both parties to implement this agreement.

The main topics of the summit will be Ukraine, the strengthening of the European economy, energy, immigration and the strengthening of the eurozone.

However, the high representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, is expected to report to the EU leaders about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. The agreement reached between the parties in Ohrid, last Saturday, will also be part of the conclusions from this meeting of the leaders of the EU member states.

“The European Council welcomes the agreement reached in the dialogue facilitated by the European Union on the annex for the implementation of the agreement on the path towards the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and invites both parties to appropriately and in good faith implement the obligations of their respective”, this text says.

This topic was discussed earlier in the week, at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU.

Josep Borrell had also reported to them. He called it a “new status quo” in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, which will ensure the transition from a phase of crises to a phase of implementation of the agreement. Many EU countries have welcomed the agreement reached in Ohrid, and have requested that the focus now be directed towards implementation.

Diplomatic sources in Brussels have said that some countries have called for “increased care” on the part of the EU in order to ensure the full implementation of all points of the agreement and not to allow deviation from the obligations for either party. .

In the EU structures, the procedures are expected to start so that the implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is formally included in the framework of the negotiations of Serbia’s membership in the EU, and in the reporting of a special Commission for normalization for Kosovo. The EU has reiterated that, although the agreement has not been formally signed, due to legal reasons, its implementation and the annex for implementation is an obligation for the parties./Rel
