The Riverside Unified School District is grappling with at least two fights that broke out at its schools this week.

The fighting took place at Ramona High School on Wednesday and at Martin Luther King High School on Monday, according to the Riverside Police Department and school district.

At around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, a school resource officer assigned to Ramona responded to the student unrest at the end of the lunch period, the Riverside Police Department posted on Facebook.

A student, according to police, refused to follow directions from the school resource officer and a school administrator, and the student resisted attempts by the officer to detain him, police said. The student’s sister then assaulted the officer, police said, prompting more police officers to take both students into custody.

An 18-year-old student was jailed for resisting arrest, and his 14-year-old sister was placed in Riverside County Juvenile Detention for assaulting an officer, police said.

The 18-year-old suffered minor scratches as a result of the altercation, police said.

a video of another fight circulated on social media showing two Martin Luther King students getting into a fight on Monday, according to KTLA-TV Channel 5.

The Riverside United School District confirmed the video’s existence in a statement Thursday.
